He warned that Nigerians have decided to take back their country and nothing would stop it, not even intimidation.

The Ebonyi State governorship candidate of the Labour Party for the March 2023 governorship election, Mr Edward Nkwegu has called on the nation's security agencies to learn from their past mistakes and ensure free and fair elections in 2023.

Nkwegu gave the advice while addressing journalists at Akanu Ibam International Airport, Enugu on Wednesday.

The LP candidate, who was responding to questions about the increasing cases of attacks from both security agents and political thugs of opposition parties who see LP as a threat, said they (security agencies) have a chance to improve from their past mistakes. He warned that Nigerians have decided to take back their country and nothing would stop it, not even intimidation.

He said, "I believe that the people of this country, it has got to a time they want to take back their country. Many of the challenges we face, I believe that the security agencies will learn from past experiences and improve on what they have been doing, and I strongly believe that the masses will take the bull by the horns and make sure they resist any attempt to frustrate the elections.

"I believe that the security agencies are up to the task as they are going to set the base for a peaceful conduct of the next elections."

Nkwegu who was received by his party supporters on his arrival at the Enugu Airport from Abuja said that the "Labour Party has what it takes to win elections in Ebonyi state”.

He added that "because all the public - civil servants, patriotic youth, women and the vulnerable people in society are all labour party members, they are going to vote Labour Party massively, so we are sure we are going to win".

He maintained that the 2023 elections are going to be about "the quality of the person, the character of the person, the competence of the individual, the capacity and the commitment of the individual”.

“Nigerians are going to look at the people and vote according to their conscience," he said.

Asked about the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), he expressed confidence that the commission will deliver free, fair and credible elections in 2023.

Speaking on his major priority should he win the election, he said he has a 4-point agenda that will drive his administration. "I am going to do economic transformation and build with rapid industrialisation, modernisation of the agricultural system. We are going to also create jobs, sustainable jobs and all-inclusive wealth creation," he said.
