On February 24 this year, Russia invaded Ukraine and seized many cities around Kyiv. However, as the war went on, BBC reports that Ukrainian forces retook large areas in early April after Russia abandoned its push.

But the war which is still raging on has seen heartrending casualties and destruction recorded where according to a Reuters report, at least 29,916 people have been killed, at least 53,616 people have sustained non-fatal injuries, approximately 14 million people have been displaced, at least 140,000 buildings have been destroyed and approximately US$350 billion worth of property have been damaged.

On Wednesday President Zelenskyy on his Twitter page lamented that the Russian forces had destroyed all the basics of life in Lyman city and everywhere in the territories they seized.

President Zelenskyy however said that this can only be stopped in one way, which is to liberate Ukraine, life, humanity, law and truth as soon as possible.

Attached with photos of destroyed powerlines, railway, burnt and deserted buildings, President Zelenskyy wrote, “Our Lyman after the occupier… All basics of life have been destroyed here.

“They are doing so everywhere in the territories they seize. This can be stopped in 1 way only: liberate Ukraine, life, humanity, law and truth as soon as possible.”

As the war rages on, the the US had announced another $625 million (£547m) in military support to Ukraine, but according to the BBC, Russia warned that the US's decision to send more military aid to Ukraine "increases the danger of a direct military clash" between Russia and the West.
