No fewer than 30 people were confirmed killed in a gun and knife attack at a children’s centre in northeast Thailand on Thursday, local police said.

The massacre occurred in Nong Bua Lamphu Province, with young children and their parents being among the victims, according to Thai media.

The police have identified the attacker as a former police officer who was recently released from service.

The motive for the attack is unclear.

Reports in Thailand say the officer had recently been dismissed, BBC reports.

The gunman has been identified by police as 34-year-old Panya Kamrab. Police say he was last seen driving a white four-door Toyota pick-up truck with Bangkok registration plates.
