Tinubu had in August paid the former president a visit in his Hilltop Home in Abeokuta, Ogun State, during which Obasanjo taunted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for choosing his former deputy, Atiku Abubakar, as its presidential candidate.

Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president, has described as fake news a circulating message on social media in which he was said to have endorsed Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tinubu had in August paid the former president a visit in his Hilltop Home in Abeokuta, Ogun State, during which Obasanjo taunted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for choosing his former deputy, Atiku Abubakar, as its presidential candidate.
Since the visit, there have been speculations that the ex-president was ready to support Tinubu’s presidency.
In a widely shared WhatsApp chat, Obasanjo was allegedly quoted as saying, “I am not a politician; I am a decorated soldier, an army general. If you are looking for thorough bred politician of masters class, visit Lagos Bourdillon, there you’ll find one.”
However, Obasanjo, through his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, responded to the allegation by stating that he never made any remarks that denigrated his honourable military career.
He said, “Only the military trains personnel to be good managers of men and materials. So, I cannot disparage my noble profession for politics that has no formal training. This is false and fake.”
SaharaReporters had on August 20 also reported that Obasanjo denied reports that he endorsed Tinubu.
Obasanjo in a statement had said his discussion with Tinubu was brotherly than political, adding that those claiming to be insiders at the meeting and concocting how the discussion went were enemies of Tinubu himself.
The former president had said “Those claiming to be insiders at the meeting issuing statement on the discussion and those crediting to me statement I had not made are enemies of the visitor and are not doing the visit any good.”
