Tinubu on Monday described the opposition party as a party of termites.

The camp of Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, has replied the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, who said the PDP are a party of termites and highly corrupt politicians.

Phrank Shaibu, Special Assistant, Public Communications to Atiku Abubakar, told Tinubu that he should not forget how the same termites “ate” N17.1billion payment vouchers under the President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that Tinubu on Monday described the opposition party as a party of termites.

He had said this during the inauguration of the APC Women Campaign Council at the presidential villa in Abuja.

“Our opponents spent 16 years, they had forgotten that the highway is an economy, electricity is mandatory for industrialisation. They don’t understand the transmission lines and the need for maintenance. They couldn’t make a down payment for the trail track. They are a political party of termites,” Tinubu had said.

Reacting, in a tweet, Shaibu told the former Lagos state governor not to forget the role of termites under the current administration of Buhari.

"@officialABAT, have you forgotten that, under Buhari’s @OfficialAPCNg #monkeys abandoned banana for #Naira notes; termites left woods for vouchers; snakes left rodents for #Naira notes? #Amnesia is real…Nigerians are ur greatest albatross, hamstrung and nemesis! @daily" he tweeted.

In the last seven and half years of the ruling All Progressives Congress, animals have been blamed for missing funds without trace or eating up financial documents.

Termites were alleged to have recently eaten up some documents of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) containing expenditures worth N17.1 billion.

These documents are said to contain details of spendings by the agency in 2013.

In 2018, a sales clerk was suspended after she told auditors that a snake had swallowed 36 million Naira proceeds from sale of scratch cards.

The clerk, Philomena Chieshe, was working at an office for the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) in Benue state.

A representative of JAMB, Fabian Benjamin had said that the employee admitted to the auditors that the snake “swallowed” the missing money.

In 2019, a gorilla was accused of swallowing N6.8 million in the Kano Zoological Gardens, according to BBC Pidgin.

A finance officer in the zoo was quoted as saying the gorilla sneaked into an office and carted away the money before swallowing it.

In February 2018, Shehu Sani, then a Senator stated the N70 million, which was given to the Northern Forum of Senators, was swallowed by monkeys at the leader’s farm.

Sani disclosed this after Senator Abdullahi Adamu was deposed as chairman of the Northern Senators Forum.
