The organisation begged government officials to cut down its bloated personnel cost.

The Gani Fawehinmi Memorial Organisation (Gafamorg) says that the proposed budget deficit of N10.78 trillion in the 2023 budget estimate is clearly not applicable and implementable.

The organisation begged government officials to cut down its bloated personnel cost.

Gafamorg said that with a N20.51 trillion budget based on a mono economy system of oil "practiced or adopted" by Nigeria with a projected revenue at N16.87 trillion and N10.78 trillion, it clearly showed that Nigeria is running in deficit.

Gafamorg stated this in a statement issued on Monday signed by its National Chairman and Public Relations Officer, Comrade Babatunde Agunbiade and Comrade Akintunde Adedeji respectively.

It decried that despite the promises of President Muhammadu Buhari led-Federal Government to make universities funding and other sector a priorities in the 2023 proposed budget, the N470.10 billion earmarked as proposed budget for universities and other tertiary institutions shows that the government abdicated its responsibilities of governance.

The organisation in the statement titled: "press statement on year 2023 proposed Budget/ Appropriation Bill: Gafamorg perspectives, views and positions," tasked the president to match his words with action by immediate implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) the FG signed with ASUU to end the eight months industrial action.

The group said, "Gafamorg on behalf of Nigerians is saying enough of anti-poor/masses policies, exploitation of the poor by the privileged few rich and improvement of the socioeconomic programs of the government for the masses which are the indices and parameters to measure good governance. We equally campaign for equality between the government and the governed in all facets of live. Nigeria belongs to us all."

It noted that the current administration was not ready to cut cost on personal expenditure/wasteful spendings to free more funds for important sector of governance; citing a humongous amount of N11.92 billion budgeted on the president and his vice feeding, refreshments and foreign trips, simply describing it as "too much for two government officials and servants of the people, out of over 200 million Nigerians.”
