The Delhi court has also framed charges against two absconding accused.
Two-time Indian Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar and 17 others have been slapped with charges relating to murder, attempt to murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, and other sections including criminal conspiracy by a Delhi Court.
The Delhi court has also framed charges against two absconding accused.
Sushil Kumar hatched a conspiracy that led to a brawl at the Chhatrasal Stadium and allegedly the death of a former junior national wrestling champion, the Delhi Police said in its charge sheet in the murder case.
Kumar wanted to "establish supremacy" among younger wrestlers, the police further said.
India Today reports that Kumar and his associates allegedly assaulted 23-year-old wrestler Sagar Dhankar, his friend Sonu and three others at the stadium on the intervening night of May 4 and 5 over a property dispute. Later, Sagar succumbed to his injuries.
It was due to the initial reluctance shown by Sagar and Sonu to vacate Kumar's flat and "murmurs" in the stadium that Kumar was scared of the duo and couldn't withstand them, police investigation established.
Delhi Police had arrested Sushil Kumar from Mundka in May 2021 in connection with the murder of former international wrestler Sagar Dhankar inside Chhatrasal Stadium in North- West Delhi. He was on the run for over a fortnight.
The deceased wrestler, 23-year-old Sagar Dhankad, earlier lived in the flat in Model Town which is owned by Kumar. The two wrestlers had an ongoing dispute over the rent of the flat which snowballed into a fatal brawl after Dhankad abused Kumar, police revealed.
