Nigerian Police Arrest 51-year-old Man For Beating Wife To Death In Ogun

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect strangled the deceased during a scuffle.

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State command, have arrested a 51-year-old man, Oluranti Badejo, who allegedly strangled his 40-year-old wife, Folasade, to death.

It was gathered that Badejo was arrested on Wednesday following a report lodged by the deceased’s younger sister, at the Mowe Divisional headquarters.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident to newsmen explained that the deceased’s younger sister said she had received information from her elder sister's daughter that the deceased who lived with her husband at Orimerunmu, Mowe, was beaten to death by her husband.

SaharaReporters learnt that when the complaint was lodged, the police detectives from the division to the scene where the suspect was immediately arrested.

The PPRO said that upon the arrest of the suspect, the lifeless body of the victim was taken to the mortuary in Shagamu for autopsy and further investigation.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect strangled the deceased during a scuffle.

It was reported that the suspect, having realised that he had killed his wife, used hot iron to burn parts of her body to make it look as if she was electrocuted, but the plan did not work for him as their eight-year-old daughter witnessed the incident and subsequently reported to her aunt, testifying that she saw her father strangulating her mother to death.

The command said the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be taken to the Homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation Departments (CID) for further investigation.
