The sexagenarian was said to have been locked up for 20 years.

At least five people have been invited by the Nigerian police to assist it in the investigation into the inhumane confinement of a 67-year-old man for 20 years in Kaduna.

The sexagenarian was said to have been locked up for 20 years.

He was discovered in Bayajidda/Ibrahim Taiwo Road in the Kaduna North Local Government Area.

It was learnt that he urinated and defecated in the same room.

The environmental officers who discovered the man on Wednesday told journalists they were really shocked to have come upon such a scene.

One of the officers said, “Today we came to this house in search of beverages that were usually kept in residential houses without proper storage facilities when we saw a naked man locked up in a room.

“We found that he was in an uncomfortable position. The odour coming out from the room was unbearable.

“Later, we broke the room and brought him out. He was behaving like an animal. It was then we learnt that he was kept in the room for 20 years.

“We also found out he was fed in the room. He urinates and passes his faeces in the same room.”

However, the spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Mohammed Jalige, said the police commissioner, Yekini Ayoku, had ordered that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area should lead operatives to the scene and bring out the man.

According to Jalige, the commissioner also ordered an investigation to find out why the man was confined for so long.

“When we went to the scene, we found the man naked, we gave him clothes to wear and brought him out and took him to the hospital for medical evaluation,” he said.

He said an investigation into the matter had already commenced.

He said five people were found in the area who have been assisting the police with the investigation, Daily Trust reports.

“We were made to understand that the man had children and a wife who was nowhere to be found. The people we met in the compound and the neighbouring houses, we believe will assist us in getting the true position of the whole scenario.

“We will work together with the medical doctors to obtain their report on the man’s health status. What matters now is to get the man alive and make him comfortable, and we have succeeded in doing that,” Jalige said.
