The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi and his political party have succumbed to criticism over the composition of the party’s presidential campaign council list.

There have been issues regarding the inclusion of some persons with questionable characters on the list.

Obi, who on Friday that there were omissions and erroneous entries in the list, said that the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party have addressed the issues and will release an updated version of the list in due course.

“I have received several calls of concern following the release of the Labour Party's Presidential Campaign Council list. Admittedly, there were some omissions and erroneous entries in the list, hence the concerns expressed.

“In response, the Labour Party Chairman in the presence of members of the NWC addressed the issues during a press conference.

“In keeping with our commitment to accountability, responsiveness and transparency, an updated list will be issued in due course. I plead for patience,” Obi said.

The Labour Party on Wednesday released its Presidential Campaign Council list of 1,234 members, including the former Nigerian Defence Headquarters’ Director of Information, Major General John Enenche (retd.), who described the videos and photos of the massacred #EndSARS protesters at Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos in 2020 as fake and photoshopped.

The list generated public criticisms, including from members of opposition political parties, who questioned Obi’s credibility and asked what differentiates him from other candidates whom his supporters, #Obidients see as corrupt.
