Osun House Of Assembly Speaker, Aides Hospitalised After Road Accident

A vehicle moving towards Ilesa from Osogbo lost control, hit some vehicles in Owoeye’s convoy, and badly damaged them, The Punch reports.

Mr Timothy Owoeye, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, and some of his aides were injured in a road accident involving his convoy on Thursday near the Osogbo/Ilesa highway.

Mr. Kunle Alabi, Owoeye's Press Secretary, said the Speaker was not hurt but had been taken to the hospital with those who had been injured for treatment.

 

He said, “It is true that a vehicle heading to Ilesa collided with the speaker’s convoy leading to an accident, where four vehicles in the convoy were damaged.

 

“Many aides, including security operatives on the convoy sustained various degrees of injury.

 

“The Speaker is not injured but he is also at the hospital now, along with others for precautionary measures.”

 

 

 

Road accidents have claimed more lives and rendered many people incapacitated in Nigeria. More than 11,800 road traffic casualties were reported in Nigeria during the fourth quarter of 2021.

 

Of those, around 10.2 thousand were injured, while 1.7 thousand were registered deaths. In the previous quarter, approximately 8.8 thousand injuries and 1.4 thousand deaths, both resulting from road traffic crashes, were counted in the country. According to Statista, most road accidents occurring in Nigeria are classified as serious.
