This comes a few weeks after the police spokesman said Nigerians have no right to respond if a policeman in uniform slaps them.

The spokesman for the Nigeria Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has again come under heavy criticism over his tweet supporting a verbal assault by officers on Nigerians.

This comes a few weeks after the police spokesman said Nigerians have no right to respond if a policeman in uniform slaps them.

A Twitter user had asked the spokesperson why a police officer would threaten to shoot someone who is not armed.

“Is there any reason for a police officer to threaten to shoot someone when the said person is not harmed (sic) or poses any threat sir?” he had asked.

Responding to the tweet, Adejobi said, “Mere words of mouth do not constitute any offense. Take note pls. Lets read the law. There are decided cases on this assertion, even many popular cases that one can cite here. Ire o.”

SaharaReporters gathered that the view of the spokesperson contravenes Section 3 (D) of FORCE ORDER 237 of the Nigeria Police Force Continuum Matrix (FCM) which prohibits police officers from pointing firearms at citizens.

Section 323 of the Criminal Code Act in Nigeria also states that any person who, knowing the contents thereof, directly or indirectly causes any person to receive any writing threatening to kill any person is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for seven years.

However, the latest tweet did not go down well with Twitter users as they accused him of being lawless.
