SaharaReporters earlier reported that some gunmen invaded the Ebonyi boundary community with Enugu on Thursday night.

Many people were reported also to have been injured during the attack including a secondary school teacher, identified as Cyprian Aja.

Sources from the community told SaharaReporters on Monday that the remains of Celestine were found on Saturday night following a search by the youths.

According to one of the sources, the community has established contact with two persons missing after the incident.

"Our people have reached out to them and they said that they are alive. However, their abductors are demanding N10 million for their ransom," one of the sources said.

Some community members earlier told SaharaReporters that the gunmen took advantage of the bad road leading to the community to lay an ambush and attack residents returning from town.

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked the community on March 29, 2021, killing 21 people.

Unfortunately, despite recovering the phone of one of the attackers, which was handed over to the state police commissioner, no one has been arrested to date in connection with the attack and killings.

The latest incident was reported to have occurred at the same spot where the 2021 incident took place.

A community leader, Chief Omebe Eze, who confirmed the latest tragedy told SaharaReporters on Monday that the community has officially reported the incident to the police.

He said that efforts were being made to secure the release of the two people held captive by the gunmen.

When contacted on the telephone on Monday morning, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chris Anyanwu, told SaharaReporters that he was yet to get the details of the attack.

"I have not gotten the details of the incident but when I get it, I will make it public," he said.
