SaharaReporters gathered that the late Inspector was shot dead by his fellow policeman, Inspector Atule Benedict, who is also attached to Onwusibe.

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the killing of Inspector Ugwor Samuel, attached to Abia State House of Assembly member, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe by his colleague.

SaharaReporters gathered that the late Inspector was shot dead by his fellow policeman, Inspector Atule Benedict, who is also attached to Onwusibe.

It was learnt that the tragic incident occurred on Sunday in Umuahia, the state capital.

The spokesperson for the command, DSP Geoffrey Ogbonna, who confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters said the suspect had been arrested.

Ogbonna, who described the incident as unfortunate and barbaric, noted that the policemen were attached to Police Special Protection Unit Base 15, Anambra State.

He said, "It's quite unfortunate and discreditable. The policemen are from SPU Base 15 Anambra State but are attached to Hon. Ginger Onwusibe.

"The erring policeman is in custody while the deceased is in the morgue. Case under investigation by State CID Umuahia, please."

An aide to the lawmaker who witnessed the incident told SaharaReporters that trouble started when the deceased had a misunderstanding with his colleague over a comment on the attitude of Inspector Atule.

"Atule reacted angrily and there was an altercation which led Inspector Atule to take his gun and shoot the deceased Inspector," the aide said.

The aide who spoke on condition of anonymity said efforts to disarm Atule by other policemen in their team failed, and that he threatened to kill “more policemen if they come close to him".
