He narrated how in 2011, he proposed to the government to abolish federal allocation, attributing the sharing of monthly allocation as part of the affliction of the country.

The senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Enugu West Senatorial District, Prof Nick Ezeh has declared support for part-time legislature in Nigeria.

Ezeh, who spoke on Tuesday during a briefing at the South East Zonal Secretariat of the party, said the part-time legislature is an ideal situation to cut the cost of governance in the country.

He said it has robbed the people of good governance and development.

He said, "In developed countries, representation is on a part-time basis. If you want to go to Senate, you must have a profession. You must have what you do, you must have means of livelihood so that when you go to represent your people you represent them; it should not be a full-time occupation. It is not a job, it is representation, it should be part-time and I will support that."

He narrated how in 2011, he proposed to the government to abolish federal allocation, attributing the sharing of monthly allocation as part of the affliction of the country.

Ezeh said, "Remember when I ran for election in 2011, then much younger I proposed the scrapping of the federal allocation at all levels. My view on that is that people who call their family together and share money every month will never ever develop. You don't share money but it didn't work because there were so many excuses.

"I don't know how much allocations Akanu Ibam, I. M Okpara and the rest obtained to develop the South East but that is a matter for another day. So, I will support part-time legislature so that people will be paid allowances - senators and House (of Representatives members) at every point including counsellors should be paid sitting allowances. If you know that you don't have the resources to do that, you quit."

Speaking on his social contract with the Enugu-West senatorial zone if elected under "Ugoeze Restoration Mandate," he sid promised to restore the dignity of his people through effective and efficient goal-based result-oriented representation and service delivery.

He said, "Under this social contract, I will pursue an aggressive inclusiveness template and ensure even distribution of infrastructural development, attract beneficial appointments and employment for the teeming citizens of Enugu West Senatorial District."
