Akwa took over as an interim administrator of the Commission for the duration of the Forensic Audit into the operations of the NDDC, which has now been concluded.

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua as the new Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, stating that Audu-Ohwavborua’s appointment was temporary until a substantive managing director was appointed.

The statement reads, “Sequel to President Muhammad Buhari’s approval of the disengagement of the Interim Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission from his position, the President has further approved that the most senior director in the Commission should take over the running of the affairs of the Commission in line with the Federal Government Circular dated 4th December 2017, with Ref. No. 50/S./C.2/268, pending the appointment of a substantive Managing Director and members of the Governing Board.

“Accordingly, Engr Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua (FNSE) will perform the duties of the Managing Director in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Managing Director and members of the Governing Board.”

SaharaReporters had earlier reported how Buhari hired the Sole Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Effiong Akwa.

The government had stated that new Board nominees would be announced soon in line with section 5(2) of the NDDC Act, 2000.

Akwa took over as an interim administrator of the Commission for the duration of the Forensic Audit into the operations of the NDDC, which has now been concluded.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions had summoned the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Umana Okon Umana, over allegations of non-performance and corruption.

This was made known on Wednesday by the Chairman of the panel, Senator Ayo Akinyelure, who stated this at a news conference in Abuja.

He revealed that the committee had met and resolved that the minister should be invited based on the strength of a petition against him.

The Senator added that the committee had agreed to ensure the matter was accorded an accelerated hearing.

He said the minister was expected to appear on November 10 by 2 pm.
