The incident occurred on October 20, 2020.

It is exactly two years since personnel of the Nigerian Army shot at unarmed Nigerian youths at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos State during the nationwide #EndSARS protest.

The incident occurred on October 20, 2020.

In October 2020, Nigerians, especially youths protested against police brutality and demanded the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria Police Force.

Many young Nigerians were killed across the country by security personnel including the army and the police during the protests. And on the night of October 20, 2020, some protesters who gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos, armed with only Nigerian flags, were shot at with live ammunition by the Nigerian Army.

Amnesty International said at least 12 persons were killed at the Lekki Toll Gate and in Alausa, both in Lagos.

Ambulances and emergency teams were prevented from rendering immediate help to the wounded protesters, leading to more casualties. Many dead bodies reportedly disappeared and many unhurt protesters were arrested and brutalized.

Meanwhile, two years after the #EndSARS, some Nigerians arrested in Lagos State and other parts of the country are still being detained in various cells.

But Nigerian leaders may have forgotten about the Lekki Toll Gate massacre and moved on with politics and political campaigns ahead of the 2023 general elections, some Nigerians have demanded to know who ordered soldiers to attack peaceful protesters at the toll gate.

Many tweeps have resumed the call, not just for justice for #EndSARS victims, dead or alive, but to ask: “Who gave the order” for the Lekki Toll Gate shooting, which has become one of the most trending topics in Nigeria on Twitter.

Since Wednesday, Nigerians on Twitter and other social media platforms, have been asking the same question that has failed to receive the expected answer for the past two years, “Who Gave The Order?”

One of the strongest Nigerian human rights activists and frontier of the 2020 #EndSARS protest, Aisha Yesufu changed her Twitter account profile picture to a photo of total darkness and she wrote, “Two years ago Nigeria decided to kill its own who simply asked not to be killed. Justice is yet to be served! #LekkiMassacre 20-10-20.”

A Twitter user, @MissPearls asked, “Who pulled the trigger? Who denied the massacre? Who tried to hide the evidences? We will never forget!”

Another Nigerian, @Slade1_ wrote, “2 years after and the truth is still hidden. WHO GAVE THE ORDER? #LekkiMassacre”

@PO_GrassRootM insisted that “All the #Endsars victims desire justice. Two years after no one has been held accountable. Rest In Peace our heroes we will never forget you all.”

For @Khaleesee_, “We ask again, Who gave the order? It's been 2yrs now and we haven't gotten answers and we haven't gotten JUSTICE!!! #LekkiMassacre”

Another Nigerian, @Nnamsobombb lamented that “Today makes it two years now since the Lekki massacre happened. Nobody knows who gave the order for innocent lives to be publicly executed. It's really a hard memory to forget. May their souls continue to rest in peace.”

@chybxo said that “Mohammed Buhari, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Jide Sanwo-Olu, Nigerian Army & the entire APC Nigeria killed youths at the Lekki Toll Gate and denied it. You're all murderers and you'll have no peace. You must tell us Who Gave The Order!!!”

A Twitter user, @Nkemchor_ said that “Sanwo-olu went to tell buhari our grievances and he laughed! He freaking laughed!!! We will never forget! Never again will we have such an inhumane leader and we will not stop asking one question. Who gave the order!!!”

Indeed, many Nigerians online and offline want an answer to the heartbreaking question, “Who Gave The Order?”
