Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s illness has turned him into a political comic strip. The APC presidential candidate’s unintelligent speeches and statements, gaffes, and snafus, on critical national issues, all point to the fact that Tinubu is gravely ill.

Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s illness has turned him into a political comic strip. The APC presidential candidate’s unintelligent speeches and statements, gaffes, and snafus, on critical national issues, all point to the fact that Tinubu is gravely ill.

At Arewa interactive committee in Kaduna on climate change, Tinubu said: “It’s a question of how do you prevent a church rat from eating poisoned holy communion.” Unveiling his election manifesto at Aso Rock in Abuja, and defending Buhari’s insatiable appetite for foreign loans, he said: “The whole of America deserves to be in prison if loan is a crime.”

The two latest examples of Tinubu’s comedy of errors tipped the scale from callous humor to tragi-comedy. Such unintelligible and ridiculous statements undermine his capacity, capability, competence, mental stability, and overall suitability for the highest office in the land. Tinubu is confronted with the caprice of illness and his mad ambition for the presidency. His responses to questions show crude powerlessness and serious illness. More importantly, it proves his supporters, promoters, propagandists, and interpreters of his maladies wrong.

Tinubu who is seriously sick takes great pains to manage and hide the public perception of his degenerating health. We have seen Tinubu walking by leaning heavily on someone else’s arm - a struggle he tried to hide from Nigerians.

I’m not a medical doctor, but the symptoms exhibited by Tinubu suggest that he’s suffering from dysarthria (difficulty speaking). According to a medical doctor I spoke to, dysarthria is caused by brain damage or brain changes due to old age. Tinubu’s speeches are characterized by slurring, nasal sounding, heavy breathing, strained and hoarse voice, problem speaking in a regular rhythm, with frequent hesitations, full of gurgle or monotone speech, and difficulty with tongue and lip movements.

As expected, reactions to Tinubu’s failing health fell along partisan lines: Tinubu’s opponents and of course majority of Nigerians see it as a vindication of their long-standing claims that he’s physically unfit to serve as president. His party APC and other supporters argued that Tinubu is fine, nothing is wrong with him. But Tinubu over and over again has proven his party and supporters wrong. Tinubu’s life ambition is to die as president of Nigeria. But for now, he should take care of his health, get well, and stop lying about his health!
