US Embassy in South Africa said Johannesburg stands a high risk of attack between October 29th and 30th, 2022.

The United States has warned its citizens about the possibility of terror attacks in South Africa.

The US issued a security alert on Wednesday.

In the alert posted on its website, the US Embassy in South Africa said Johannesburg stands a high risk of attack between October 29th and 30th, 2022.

Johannesburg is the country’s biggest megacity and chief industrial and financial metropolis.

It advised Americans in the city to avoid all non-essential travel or movement, stay alert, avoid crowds, and follow local news and the advice of security authorities.

“The U.S. government has received information that terrorists may be planning to conduct an attack targeting large gatherings of people at an unspecified location in the greater Sandton area of Johannesburg, South Africa, on 29 October 2022,” the advisory read.

“There is no further information regarding the timing, method, or target of the potential attack. The U.S. Embassy has advised staff to avoid crowds of people and other large public gatherings in the greater Sandton area of Johannesburg during the weekend of 29-30 October 2022.”

This comes a few days after the US also warned its citizens about the possibility of terror attacks in Nigeria.

In the alert posted on its website, the US embassy said the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) stands a high risk of attack.

It said terrorists may target government buildings, places of worship, schools and markets.
