As political activities gather momentum ahead of the forthcoming 2023 general elections, Delta state governorship candidate for the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Sunny Ofehe, has urged Deltans to reject the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in the next general elections.

Ofehe, shortly after unveiling his running mate, Mrs Eloho Chale Edafearedhe on Wednesday, at the party's state secretariat, Asaba, expressed bitterness and displeasure over what he called "sorry state of Delta",

He said right from when the state was created with thousands of billions of naira monthly of allocations from the federation account and billions of naira internally generated revenue, there has been nothing to write home about.

"I urged you party faithful and Deltans to reject both the PDP and APC in 2023, I came into the race as a voice of the voiceless, a pathfinder for the deprived, the underprivileged. The state has lost 24 years due to maladministration resulting from the unpatriotic spirit of those who lay the foundation of our pitiable state amidst plenty,” he said.

According to the YPP governorship candidate, his administration will bring his international exposure and contacts to bear in the governance of the state if elected, saying that the advancement recorded in western countries is not rocket science.

He said, "What we see is an institutional failure. What we see is a lack of education. What we see is a failure in our health care system and all of that can be summary to be the product of bad leadership and massive heartless corruption. European development is not rocket science, it was borne out of patriotism, dedication and respect for equal rights and that's why I have offered myself to serve you."

The environmental rights activist who works in The Netherlands, specifically bemoaned the way and manner the state's ecological funds are allegedly being stolen by politicians. He noted that the state is too endowed with potential and mineral resources to remain in its current state.

He said, "In this state, we can have state-of-the-art vessels that are owned by individuals. Private consortium, small, medium and large-scale entrepreneurs will be empowered. There are foreign investors who are willing to plug their resources into my economic agenda in Delta state if elected into office as a governor.

“I weep for the infrastructural deficit in my state, Delta. Every day I wake up in the city called Rotterdam, I weep for Delta state. We are in a state that has four under-functioning seaports. We are in a state with two major truck terminals that export crude oil out of this country.”
