Natasha Akpoti, the Kogi State Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, has called for the questioning of Governor Yahaya Bello over links to one of the terrorists allegedly involved in the Owo massacre and Kuje prison attack.
Gunmen had on June 4 attacked St Francis Catholic Church, located on Owa-Luwa Street in Owo, the hometown of the Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, leaving many parishioners dead and several others injured.
On July 5, gunmen also attacked the Kuje correctional facility in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and freed over 500 inmates, including suspected members of Boko Haram.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Monday, Akpoti stated that one Shafiu, who was arrested by the Department of State Services in Abuja last week, worked for Bello from 2019 till September 2022, two weeks before he was arrested.
She also accused the governor of making frantic efforts to cause violence in the state to ensure all All Progressives Congress candidates win the forthcoming elections in the state.
She said, “I will appreciate if the DSS actually invites me but I will want the DSS to invite Yahaya Bello as well and they bring Safiu and Asukwu, Yahaya Bello Chief of Staff, who claims to have freed the gentleman from prison. I would also want the DSS to televise the interrogation because it is about time the Nigerian people know the violent antics of Yahaya Bello.
“Yahaya Bello must be called for questioning over the Owo massacre and Kuje prison attack for his link with one of the terrorists that were allegedly involved in the crime.”
Bello had recently in a video threatened to attack political opponents in the state, vowing that anyone that went against him would be sent to his mother’s grave.
In another video, the governor also said he would make use of firepower to silence opponents in the state who contest in the elections, noting that he would ensure the APC wins every post in the forthcoming elections.
