Sources told SaharaReporters that Obanla has been campaigning openly for the ruling All Progressives Congress House of Representatives candidate for Akoko North East/West constituency, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

A member of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council from Ondo State, Bode Obanla has been accused of anti-party activities.

Sources told SaharaReporters that Obanla has been campaigning openly for the ruling All Progressives Congress House of Representatives candidate for Akoko North East/West constituency, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Some PDP leaders have described the action as tantamount to destabilising the unity of the party in Akoko land.

Obanla recently endorsed Tunji-Ojo against his party’s candidate, Segun Kadri.

“When you see what BTO has done in ensuring the infrastructural and industrial development of his constituency, you will have no doubt that he is a leader who knows his onions and is well prepared for the job.

“The poor conditions of medical centres in the region got changed for the better when Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo facilitated the donations of mobile clinics, tricycles ambulance and other medical equipment for the constituency,” he had said.

Reacting, some PDP leaders in the area demanded disciplinary action against Obanla, who is a member of the party’s presidential campaign council.

They frowned on the alleged failure of the state executive council of the party to act on the reported anti-party activities of the Akoko-born politician.

“How can you be a member of the presidential campaign council of PDP and openly release a statement supporting another person from APC? The presidential election and that of the House of Representatives will be done the same day, would he be telling voters to vote for PDP in the presidential poll and APC in the House of Representatives poll?

“He should either resign from the party and focus on his BTO. We are aware he has promised BTO thousands of votes in Akoko North East. It’s a known fact that we have a tradition here in this constituency. The House of Representatives seat is being rotated among the two local governments. BTO is from Akoko North West, it’s now the turn of Akoko North East.

“We wondered why the party leadership hasn’t suspended Bode Obanla for his openly anti-party activities. He has been working with opposition party members to truncate the victory of PDP in this constituency.”
