His comment comes at a time when the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, went to London to undergo surgery for the removal of a mass in his body believed to be cancerous.

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 general elections, Omoyele Sowore, has said he will not travel abroad for medical check-up if elected by Nigerians.

Sowore disclosed this on Thursday at the 95th annual conference of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria in Jos, Plateau State.

His comment comes at a time when the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, went to London to undergo surgery for the removal of a mass in his body believed to be cancerous.

SaharaReporters had exclusively reported that the Buhari is expected to undergo a surgical procedure at the Royal Brompton Hospital in the United Kingdom.

The hospital is situated at Sydney St, London SW3 6NP.

Speaking at the PSN event, Sowore said the health care system in Nigeria required very serious attention.

“We are meeting at a crucial time in the life of this country because we are discussing health care. And why is it crucial? We are meeting at a time where the President of the country has run away from his country because of poor health care,” the AAC Presidential Candidate said.

“When I become president, I want to assure you that any health care problem that Nigerian doctors and pharmacists can’t take care of, that problem better kill me. That’s my promise to you today. I live in the United States for 20 years, it doesn’t matter how sick the US president is, if they can’t find a doctor that can treat him in the US, they bury him but the case has been opposite for us.

“It’s also crucial for you to understand that some other presidential candidates who should be here today are not here, particularly, the ones that need your help.”

Meanwhile, the Presidential Candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu; Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar and that of Labour Party, Peter Obi were absent at the conference which featured over 2,000 pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, and other healthcare professionals.
