SaharaReporters earlier reported that gunmen suspected to Fulani herdsmen have recently increased their attacks and abduction of residents for ransom in the state.

Last week, SaharaReporters reported that gunmen attacked passengers along Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road and kidnapped passengers including some students of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), who were returning to campus.

Days later, former Secretary to the State Government of Enugu State, Dr Dan Shere was kidnapped along the same road.

SaharaReporters reported that the hoodlums called the families of their victims and demanded a ransom of N300 million for their release.

Although, the former SSG has been released after a huge ransom was reportedly paid, however, SaharaReporters could not independently ascertain the status of other kidnapped victims.

Enugu State has witnessed increased violence against politicians, especially members of the Labour Party.
