Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has said his boss and former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, ought to be on the redesigned Naira note which will soon be rolled out by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Atiku, who has recently been courting his age-long estranged boss, said on Twitter that the current President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration should put Obasanjo on the Naira to serve as an inspiration to “future generations of Nigerians.”
The PDP candidate tweeted, “I celebrate the extraordinary prowess of His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, in bringing peace to Ethiopia. I am not surprised. I know my boss. He did the same thing in Liberia and São Tomé and Príncipe during our time in office.
“If for nothing else, he is most deserving of a Nobel Peace Prize, and I will nominate him when entries are open for nominations. Africa is blessed to have a statesman of such impeccable democratic credentials as Chief Obasanjo. A man whose image ought to be in the redesigned Naira note to inspire future generations of Nigerians to sacrifice for their nation and continent.
“On behalf of my family, I congratulate you, President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, for successfully ending the Ethiopia-Tigray conflict. And I thank God for the gift of wisdom and foresight He gave you, which you have used creditably to steer Nigeria and Africa on the right path. – AA.”

Atiku was vice-president to Obasanjo in 1999, and had a turbulent moment with Obasanjo, culminating in both of them separating into different political parties.
Obasanjo’s comment suggests the former president is still not a fan of Atiku’s candidacy although he did not expressly mention Atiku’s name in his speech.
Obasanjo had said, “One of the mistakes I made was picking my number two when I wanted to become the President. But because it was a genuine mistake, God saved me.
“The second one was when Abacha wanted to arrest me. When he wanted to arrest me, I was told by the American ambassador that they would arrest me and that America had asked that I should be given asylum. I said ‘No’. It could have been a mistake because I could have lost my life. I will say there are many things that could have been a mistake but God saved me from them all.”
