Group Plans To Protest Against Alleged High-level Corruption In Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission
November 5, 2022

The group affirmed that the corruption in the body worsened since 2015, alleging that corruption reached its peak under Rev. Yakubu Pam as Executive Secretary.

A civic group, Civil Rights Action Against Corruption, CRAAC, says it is planning to protest against the alleged high level of corruption in the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission, NCPC.

The group affirmed that the corruption in the body worsened since 2015, alleging that corruption reached its peak under Rev. Yakubu Pam as Executive Secretary.

CRAAC in statement signed by its National Coordinator, Robbison Edeh, noted that the right to protest is a right of all citizens and no one should be intimidated by the antics of those that the leadership of NCPC hired to truncate efforts to demand that the right thing be done at the NCPC.

The statement reads in part; "The attention of the Civil Rights Action Against Corruption, CRAAC, has been drawn to plans by some disgruntled elements to tarnish the image of the group by purportedly acting to represent CRAAC. The organisation has not outsourced its responsibilities.

"Our planned protest against the high level of corruption that has bedevilled the Nigeria Christian Pilgrimage Commission, NCPC, since 2015 will be held as announced.

"The mutation of the corruption to its worst under Rev. Yakubu Pam as Executive Secretary is reason for us to sustain the protest even in the face of machinations to bring about the contrary.

"We are aware that there are plans to douse the protest, create confusion and give the impression that CRAAC sold out to Rev. Pam.

"This ugly development attest to the fact that the corrupted leadership of NCPC would rather co-opt anti-corruption crusaders into its fold through inducement instead of addressing the grievous issues raised about the running of the Commission. At no time will CRAAC succumb to this evil.

"The right to protest is a right of all citizens and no one should be intimidated by the antics of those that the leadership of NCPC has hired to truncate efforts to demand that the right thing must be done at the Commission.”

"We, therefore, warn Rev. Yakubu Pam to save the remnant of whatever funds he has illegally accumulated in NCPC as refund to the Federal Government, when the law catches up with him, instead of dissipating it in a futile attempt to stop CRAAC’s protest.

"He should be advised that our protest will not stop until the rot in NCPC is weeded out. The Reverend must consequently beware of impostors that are out to collect their own share from his slush fund. The anti-corruption protest slated for Wednesday 9th November will hold as scheduled," the statement added.
