The Federal High Court sitting in Gusau, the state capital, on Tuesday, nullified the primary election that produced Lawal as the PDP governorship candidate.

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Zamfara State, Dr. Dauda Lawal has vowed to go ahead with campaigns despite the nullification of the primary election that produced him by a court.

The Federal High Court sitting in Gusau, the state capital, on Tuesday, nullified the primary election that produced Lawal as the PDP governorship candidate of the party in the state.

Justice Aminu Bappa also ruled that the PDP will not field any candidate for the 2023 governorship election in the state.

This is the second time that the court would nullify PDP governorship primaries in Zamfara.

However, Lawal has urged members of the party, supporters, and the public to remain calm following the nullification of the governorship primaries.

This is contained in a statement issued in Gusau by the Dauda Lawal Media Office in which he described the judgement as a distraction strategy.

The media office noted that Lawal’s legal team would challenge the decision at the Appeal Court, expressing confidence that the decision of the High Court would be set aside.

The statement read, "All these are a grand plan of the Zamfara State Government, the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, and some of their collaborators from within to distract us. But, like many of their sinister plans to remain in power against the people's wish, this too shall fail by the will of Allah.

"Dauda Lawal and the Peoples Democratic Party are ferociously gaining momentum across Zamfara State; with victory in clear sight, they have resorted to all kinds of tactics to distract us from focusing on the campaign. But we shall remain focused until we rescue and rebuild Zamfara.”

The statement added that the process followed in the PDP governorship primaries that produced Lawal was in line with the provisions of the new Electoral Act as well as the guidelines of the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He, therefore, asked party members to be calm and focused and not to engage in anything capable of truncating peace in the state.

He noted that campaign activities for the 2023 general elections would go on as scheduled.

“On a final note, our resolve to rescue Zamfara State from the shackles of cluelessness and poverty brought about by the ruling APC is determined, and by the will of Allah we are certain of victory in the 2023 elections,” the statement added.
