Sowore, who spoke at the ongoing Series 2 of a presidential town hall organised by the Centre for Democracy and Development and Arise Television, in Abuja on Sunday, said women should revolt against the oppression and stop accepting 35% representation in government.
Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) for the 2023 general elections should rise up and take over the government.
Sowore, who spoke at the ongoing Series 2 of a presidential town hall organised by the Centre for Democracy and Development and Arise Television, in Abuja on Sunday, said women should revolt against the oppression and stop accepting 35% representation in government.
He said the “problem started when women started accepting percentages in representation”.
He noted that recent information from the Independent National Electoral Commission said “there are more women in this country who are qualified to vote than men”.
“When are women going to nominate a woman, vote for the person and force your husband to vote for a woman and solve this problem of inequality at once?
“Nigeria has a ministry for women affairs; I have never heard of the ministry for men affairs before but there was a time in the city of Abuja, I think it was in the APC (All Progressives Congress) that a man was applying to be voted into women’s leader position.
“In Adamawa state, the commissioner for women affairs was a man under Bindow (Jibrilla) so we have domesticated the idea of discrimination against women,” he said.
According to Sowore, sadly, “women have accepted it for too long”.
He continued, “Let them rise up and stop accepting 35%. If you’re not 35% of the population; if you’re almost 51% of the population, 50-something percent of voters, why are you accepting 35% representation in government?
“You have accepted and internalised this oppression and it has been going on for too long to solve it, stop accepting it, revolt against it, women so that you can take over for some time too. Men have been in power for too long and they have messed up our world; it’s time for women to rise up and take their place.”
