President Muhammadu Buhari has moved the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Alteration Bill 2022, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) 2023 budget proposals and other executive bills to the House of Representatives for consideration.

They were transmitted to the House through a letter addressed to the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, which he read at plenary on Monday.

They include Federal Capital Territory (FCT) 2023 budget proposals, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) 2023 budget proposals, the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and Tribunal Bill 2022 alongside the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Alteration Bill 2022.

After reading the letter, the Speaker transmitted it to the appropriate committees for review.

Meanwhile, there have been several calls towards the amendment of the 1999 constitution.

For instance, SaharaReporters earlier reported how 19 northern governors and traditional rulers in the region called for the amendment of the 1999 Constitution to give legal backing to state police in September.

They said this was the only way to tackle the myriad security challenges affecting the region and the country at large, among them banditry, insurgency, kidnapping and other forms of criminalities.

This recommendation was contained in the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting of the Northern Governors Forum (NGF) and the Northern Traditional Rulers Council (NTRC) held in Abuja.

The outcome of the meeting was released on Tuesday and it was the first time the northern governors, sitting together with traditional leaders in the region, made a strong case for the need to allow states to establish police forces.
