A Nigerian chess player, Oladapo Adu on Saturday won the 2022 Washington DC Action Chess Championship with a score of 6/6.
Adu announced his victory on his Twitter page Monday saying, “Won the Washington DC Action Chess Championship November 12th,2022 with a score of 6/6 ,God be Praised, new found love for studying is paying off.”
A chess enthusiast, Oyeleye Olawale (@ChiefWhales1) confirmed it, tweeting, :Congratulations to our very own star International Master Adu Oladapo in the Diaspora winning the Washington DC Action Chess Tournament 🏆with a flawless victory of 6/6.”
Adu won the Fredericksburg Open held between October 29 and 30, 2022. Fredericksburg Open is an annual chess competition held in Virginia, US.
Adu is a Nigerian chess player who qualified to play in the 31st Chess Olympiad in Moscow and became the Nigerian national champion in 1995.
He further qualified for the 32nd Chess Olympiad but Nigeria withdrew due to lack of resources, and he has since played in further Olympiads for Nigeria including the 33rd Chess Olympiad.
In 2015, Adu qualified for the Chess World Cup 2015, but was knocked out in the first round by Veselin Topalov.
He is the Chief Executive Officer of Dapsaychess which runs chess programmes in nursery, primary and secondary schools.
“We also give private group and individual Chess lessons. We use chess as a tool to develop the mind and also to teach the life lessons chess offers,” Adu said on his LinkedIn.
