A Brigadier General of the Nigerian Army, Audu Ogbole James, who died on Tuesday was allegedly killed by a drunk driver, SaharaReporters has learnt.

James died from injuries sustained after being knocked down by a vehicle in Lagos on Tuesday evening.

A source told SaharaReporters that the accident which took the life of James, who was the Monitor General SEC 40 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Plateau State, was caused by a drunk driver said to be a soldier. 

The source identified the drunk soldier as Corporal Abayomi Ebun.

He was said to have knocked James down while driving out of Lagos barracks.

The source said Brig. Gen. James was walking to his house in the barracks when the drunk soldier's car hit him from behind.

James was rushed to the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre Medical Centre where doctors on duty confirmed him dead.

Meanwhile, the source who lives in the NAFRC Barracks said that Corporal Ebun "has been detained by the NAFRC provost for further investigation."

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the Welfare Officer of SEC 40, ACM Kayode Olagunju, announced that James died from injuries sustained from an accident.

“Sad News. We lost a gem. Our indefatigable, humble, friendly bridge builder, the Monitor General SEC 40 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Brig Gen Audu Ogbole James, just departed.

“He died from injuries sustained from a knockdown on the road yesterday (15/11/22) evening in Lagos.

“May his soul rest in peace. Our condolences to the family, AANI, especially the SEC 40. May the Lord console all and grant the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss. So sad,” Olagunju had written.
