The suspect killed her but a man saw him while committing the crime.
Personnel of the Lagos State command of the Nigeria Police have arrested a 38-year-old man for killing his mother-in-law and an eyewitness who saw his committing the murderous act.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who made this known said the suspect whose identity was not revealed was arrested in the Akodo area in Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect killed his mother-in-law after she found out that he was having sex with his wife’s 14-year-old younger sister (mother-in-law’s daughter). The mother-in-law had threatened to expose him.
In a bid to prevent the mother-in-law from carrying out her threat, the suspect killed her but a man saw him while committing the crime, and in a bid to avoid having any loose ends, he also killed the eyewitness. However, luck ran out on him when the police got information about his crime and went after him, leading to his arrest.
The police spokesperson who added that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) said, “Somewhere in Akodo, this 38-year-old man killed his mother-in-law, only to discover someone saw him commit the crime. He quickly killed the man that saw him. Suspect is in custody.
“Preliminary investigation shows that he killed his MIL because she discovered he was having carnal knowledge of his wife’s 14-year-old younger sister (MIL’s daughter) and vowed to take it up. Case has been transferred to the SCID for the conclusion of investigation and arraignment.”
