Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has urged Nigerians to vote for who will lead Nigeria to development, rather than voting for a sectional leader in the 2023 presidential election.
Wike made this known at a road commissioning in Emohua area of Rivers State on Monday while reacting to a recent comment by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku had recently in Kaduna State during a meeting said the northerners needed a northerner like himself, not a Yoruba or an Igbo man.
Atiku made the remarks while responding to a question posed to him by the spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, during an Interactive Session with the Arewa Joint Committee held in Kaduna State.
But reacting on Monday, Wike said, “It is not enough to say don’t vote for an Igbo man or Yoruba man, but what we need is to vote for who will lead Nigeria to development.”
Five aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in alliance with some party stalwarts, had on Sunday announced the formation of the Integrity Group within the party.
This was disclosed by Governor Makinde while addressing journalists on Sunday before the group went into a closed-door meeting.
The G5 Governors led by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers and other aggrieved members of the party have been clamouring for the resignation of the PDP National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, shortly after a northerner, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, won the party’s presidential ticket.
The governors in the group include Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.
