A 50-year-old village head, Surajo Madawaki has gone into hiding after he allegedly aided bandits to kill a farmer in Katsina state.

Madawaki is the village head of Gobirawa in the Faskari Local Government Area of the state.

President Muhammadu Buhari hails from Katsina, one of the most terrorised states in the country.

SaharaReporters learnt that Madawaki went into hiding after allegedly aiding bandits to kill Yahaya Danbai, a villager who had confronted and killed a terrorist following an attack.

The state police command said Danbai was attacked by an AK-47-wielding terrorist on his farmland on October 19. Fortunately, he killed the bandit and took his AK-47 to Madawaki’s palace. But the latter, instead of reporting the matter to the authorities, allegedly contacted a terrorist, Hamisu, and handed over the rifle to him.

Hamisu reportedly assembled some people and returned to the village to kill the brave farmer, Danbai. He further ordered residents to pay him N10 million, threatening mass killing should they refuse to comply.

However, the village head has since gone into hiding following the terrorists’ rampage on his community. But the police are on his trail, according to Gombo Isah, spokesperson for the state police command.

“On 19/10/2022 at about 0900hrs, a distress call was received that one Yahaya Danbai, ‘M’, aged 35yrs of Gobirawa village, Faskari LGA of Katsina state, was attacked by a suspected terrorist with AK 47 rifle while working in his farmland at the outskirt of the village.

“The farmer summoned courage and overpowered his assailant, disarmed him and killed the terrorist.

“Subsequently, the Ward Head, instead of reporting the matter to the Police, he called one Hamisu, a notorious terrorist and leader of the killed terrorist, reported the incident to him and handed over the recovered AK-47 rifle to him.

“Consequently, the terrorists’ gang leader, Hamisu, mobilised his gang, surrounded the village, brought out the gallant farmer and killed him instantly," Isah said.
