Kingship Tussle: Osun Prince Allegedly Shot Dead By Nigerian Policeman As Hoodlums Raze Akirun’s Palace

The victim has been identified as Prince Lukman Omoola from the Gboleru ruling family in Ikirun community in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

An officer of the Nigeria Police Force has reportedly shot a prince dead in Osun.

The victim has been identified as Prince Lukman Omoola from the Gboleru ruling family in Ikirun community in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

The appointment of Yinusa Akadiri as the new monarch of the community has been greeted by several violent protests which have led to fatalities. Some members of the ruling houses who were unhappy with the emergence of Akadiri as the new king had locked the palace but there was chaos on Wednesday when the police attempted to forcibly open it.

The palace was locked to deny the new king entrance.

A resident, who spoke to The Nation on condition of anonymity, said the security agents gained entrance into the premises but some suspected hoodlums mobilised behind the palace and set it ablaze.

 

In the milieu, the prince, who was reportedly resisting the forceful entry of security men into the palace, was shot dead.

 

Another source said three firefighters mobilised to put out the fire at the palace were injured on their way there. They were reportedly forced to abandon their vehicle halfway.

 

Meanwhile, Prince Tajudeen Gboleru has confirmed the killing of his brother by the police.

 

The paper quoted him to have said, “My brother was killed during a fight in front of the palace this morning. He led some youths to the palace when he heard that they want to enter the palace, there was a brawl and one of the policemen shot him dead.”

 

Osun Fire Service spokesman Ibraheem Adekunle confirmed that three firefighters were injured in Ikirun on their way to put out the fire at the palace of Akirun on Wednesday morning.

“I am on my way to the hospital now,” he said.
