Reuters reports that the Israeli authorities said that the twin bomb attack was suspected to have been carried out by Palestinian militants.
A 16-year-old boy has been reported dead while no fewer than 14 others sustained various degrees of injuries on Wednesday in two bombs that exploded at bus stops on Jerusalem's outskirts.
Reuters reports that the Israeli authorities said that the twin bomb attack was suspected to have been carried out by Palestinian militants.
The first bomb blast occurred during rush hour, which police blamed on an explosive device planted at a bus station near the city exit, while the second blast occurred at about 30 minutes later hit a bus stop in the vicinity of an urban settlement in the Eastern part of the city.
Police spokesman, Eli Levi, reportedly told Israeli Army Radio that "There has not been such a coordinated attack in Jerusalem for many years."
In its report, Israeli Army Radio said the explosive devices were hidden in bags and were packed with nails to maximise its impact, while Kan Radio said the bombs seem to have been detonated from afar by mobile phone.
According to Reuters, Israel's ambulance service said 12 people had been taken to hospital from the first blast and three people were wounded in the second explosion, and the Shaare Zedek Medical Center said that one of the wounded, a 16-year-old, died in hospital, while Hadassah Medical Centre said it was treating six people from the same blast, one moderate and five lightly wounded, and another three people lightly wounded in the second explosion.
The office of the Israeli Defence Minister, Benny Gantz, said he was holding consultations with the head of the Shin Bet internal security agency and senior military officials.
Recall that violence attacks by Palestinian militants have continued to persist this year, particularly in the occupied West Bank, where the Israeli army has launched near-daily raids since a series of deadly attacks on Israeli targets earlier this year.
Public Security Minister, Omer Bar-Lev, said he spoke with the police chief and was “briefed on the two attacks in Jerusalem.”
Reacting to the incident, the United Nations, the European Union and the United States condemned the attacks.
The U.S. Embassy said that "Terrorism is a dead-end that accomplishes absolutely nothing."
