Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force have allegedly shot at workers of a diapers manufacturing company, Hayat Kimya, who are protesting the sacking of 200 of their colleagues by the company.

SaharaReporters had reported on Wednesday that the angry workers were seen at the front of the company's plant in the Agbara community of Ogun State, demanding immediate reinstating of their sacked colleagues.

"Where do they want me to start to take my certificate and be looking for a job? This is injustice; massive sacking" one of the protesters had said.

“In respect to the ongoing protest at HAYAT KIMYA, the information reaching me now is that the men of the Nigerian police force have been shooting sporadically to chase the workers away from the company's premises. The company laid off 200 staff on Monday, most of which started the operation with them in 2017. They sent them away without any form of compensation,” a source familiar with the incident told SaharaReporters.

According to a video obtained by Saharareporters taken at the incident, protesters were fleeing the scene to avoid being hit by the bullets of the police gunshots.

Hayat Kimya is a manufacturer of eco-friendly baby diapers and sanitary pads in the Nigerian market.

SaharaReporters gathered that the company fired the workers on Monday without providing justifiable reasons for the decision.
