Anti-graft Agency, EFCC Secures Over 3000 Convictions In Corruption Cases In 2022

The chairman of the commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, disclosed this in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, during a training workshop on financial crimes reporting for journalists in the Niger Delta region.
 

Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said it secured 3,328 convictions from January to November this year (2022).
The chairman of the commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, disclosed this in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, during a training workshop on financial crimes reporting for journalists in the Niger Delta region.
Bawa who also spoke on the recent court order the agency secured for the forfeiture of N775 million and landed properties linked to two former government officials said, “We also secured interim forfeiture of 40 assets in Nigeria, United States of America, London and Dubai belonging to former deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
“These are just a few of the assets recovered for the Federal Government of Nigeria alone. From January to November 18, 2022, EFCC has recorded 3328 convictions.”
The commission pointed out the current figure of its success surpassed those of 2,220 convictions it recorded in 2021.
EFCC added that “From January to December 2021, the EFCC effectively prosecuted and secured an unprecedented record of 2,220 convictions,” while in 2020, it secured 1,282 convictions.
