The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has described his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as an ingrate by deciding to run in the 2023 general elections.
Tinubu, who addressed a crowd of his supporters at the APC presidential rally at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos State, on Saturday, urged the people to retire Atiku with their Permanent Voter Cards in 2023 so he (Atiku) would stop contesting.
Tinubu, who made brief remarks, vowed to carry on with the “progressive policies” of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, assuring Nigerians that everybody would be carried along.
He described the forthcoming election as a broom revolution which would consume the opposition elements.
Taking a jab at Atiku in a veiled reference, Tinubu described the former vice president as an ungrateful person who has been running since 1999.
“He ran under PDP. He ran in ACN (Action Congress of Nigeria), we accepted him. He is an ingrate. He is not supposed to run again. Use your vote to retire him,” he added.
SaharaReporters on Friday reported that Tinubu asked Atiku to abandon his presidential ambition following the latter's prior unsuccessful attempts to occupy the country's highest political office.
Atiku, 76, ran unsuccessfully for president in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019.
Tinubu had addressed the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Oboro-Gbaraun II (Aketekpe, Agadagba), in Gbaramatu, Delta State.
“Kabiyesi, Your Royal Highness, as I stand before you, there are few of us left running. One says he is Atiku. How many times has he been running? He’s always on the run and he’s tired. Tell him to go and sit down. Enough is enough.
“Kabiyesi, Your Royal Majesty, it was a joy to find one of my own blood being part of you from Badagry. So, what else do you need? You need honesty; you need the man who knows the road. That is me,” he had bragged.
