This was revealed by the Lagos State Chairman of Afenifere, Otunba Tunde Onakoya on Wednesday at the unveiling of the candidate.

Members of the Lagos chapter of a pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, have thrown their weight behind Olawale Oluwo, the governorship candidate of Boot Party for the 2023 governorship election in the state.

This was revealed by the Lagos State Chairman of Afenifere, Otunba Tunde Onakoya on Wednesday at the unveiling of the candidate.

Onakoya slammed Bola Tinubu, claiming that the ex-governor of Lagos used the organisation to become governor and then abandoned it.

Tinubu is the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress.

The governorship elections for state governors will be contested in 31 of the 36 Nigerian states in 2023. Except for Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa states, all elections will be held on 11 March 2023. Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa states’ elections will be held on 11 November.

Onakoya said the organisation and other support groups will help Oluwo in his efforts to free Lagos from Tinubu's stranglehold.

He said, “We have been in politics for many years. The current presidential candidate of APC used to be a member of Afenifere.

“He (Tinubu) came from us and joined us and the whole Afenifere has contributed to raising him. He has left us and he has not replenished what he got from us.

“It is through Mr Oluwo that we are going to conquer him (Tinubu),” Onakoya said.

In a similar development, SaharaReporters had also reported that the leader of Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, accused Tinubu of bribing some people to create the impression that there is conflict in Afenifere.

There seems to be a fraction in Afenifere after some of its leaders publicly endorsed Tinubu in October.

Meanwhile, on behalf of the organisation, Adebanjo had endorsed Obi, insisting that the South-East should produce the next President for the sake of fairness.
