Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari, is one of the witnesses to testify against a student, Aminu Mohammed, who criticised her on Twitter.

Muhammed is a student of Federal University, Dutse who was assaulted, detained and remanded for criticising the First Lady.

On Wednesday, SaharaReporters reported that the police had secretly arraigned Muhammed before a Federal Capital Territory High Court and remanded him in prison custody.

Muhammed was arrested for tweeting that Aisha was feeding fat on poor people’s money.

The final-year student in the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology, in June 2022 posted on Twitter that Mrs Buhari had suddenly added weight after taking part in plundering the nation’s meagre resources as the masses endured hardship under her husband’s regime.

The wife of the President is known for taking frivolous trips to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The tweet, which was posted in Hausa reads: “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi.”

The tweet, which was accompanied by a photograph of Mrs Buhari, can be loosely translated as “Mama has eaten poor people’s money and is now full”.

However, according to The PUNCH, available information shows that Aisha is one of the five witnesses listed by the prosecution team to testify against Muhammed in court.

According to the police, his offence borders on defamation and cyberstalking, which they claim contravenes Section 391 of the Penal Code.

Muhammed has pleaded not guilty to the charge and was subsequently remanded in prison without an option of paying a fine.

The charge filed against the student marked CR/89/2022, and dated November 23, reads, “That you Aminu Adamu, male of Anguwar Sarakuna, Bauch, Bauchi state sometime between May – June 2022 within the jurisdiction of this Honorable court did intentionally open a Twitter Handle with the name @aminullahie Catalyst and screenshot the image of Her Excellency Hajia Aisha Buhari and wrote on it in Hausa language ‘Su mama anchi kudi talakawa ankoshi’ roughly translated to the English language to mean ‘mama has embezzled monies meant for the poor to satisfaction’ and posted same on your above Twitter handle for the members of the public to read, knowing same to be false and capable of affecting her reputation. You thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 391 of the penal code.”

His lawyer, Kinsley Anga said Muhammed would remain in prison pending the determination of his bail application.
