Multiple sources told SaharaReporters that there were serious plans to significantly alter the content of the advertisement already published by the institution.

The Ogun State College of Health Technology has been polariaed as the institution shops for a new provost.

Multiple sources told SaharaReporters that there were serious plans to significantly alter the content of the advertisement already published by the institution.

The advert, it was learnt, appears unfavorably to the alleged preferred candidate of the governing council chairman, Kunle Kalejaiye.

The institution had published an advert in the newspapers and stated that the candidate must be highly distinguished academic with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Degree.

It was added in the advert that candidate must have minimum of eighteen (18) years teaching experience in tertiary institution, at least eight (8) years of which must have been gained in the polytechnic or similar institution.

“Specifically, the candidates must; be a highly distinguished Academic with a Ph.D Degree with ability to provide quality academic and administrative leadership,” it read.

“Have minimum of Eighteen (18) years teaching experience in tertiary institution, at least eight (8) years of which must have been gained in the Polytechnic or similar institution.

“Have attained the position of Chief Lecturer in reputable Polytechnic or similar Institution of higher learning and must have spent minimum of five (5) years on the post.

“Be less than 60 years of age at the time of assumption of office for a term of 5 years. Have a high reputation and be able to command the respect of national and international academic communities through his/her track record;

“Be able to provide administrative leadership to a well-informed and articulate local academic community. Possess the ability to sustain harmony among the Governing Council, Academic Board, Management, Staff, Students and between the College and the host communities.”

While about 16 candidates applied for the position after the advert, only two were shortlisted by the governing council led by Kalejaiye.

Those shortlisted include Dr Cyril Akinyele and Dr Oludipe Daniel.

While the advert stated that the candidate must be distinguished academic, SaharaReporters gathered that Akinyele was never an academic but was shortlisted on the orders of the governing council chairman.

Though a Ph.D. holder, he is an environmental health officer with the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission.

Akinyele’s resume also revealed he did not have the minimum of eighteen (18) years teaching experience in any tertiary institution or attained the position of Chief Lecturer in a reputable polytechnic or similar Institution of higher learning as stated in the advert.

A member of the governing council who spoke to SaharaReporters cited various alleged irregularities in the process of appointing the new provost for the institution.

He accused Kalejaiye of disqualifying other candidates despite qualified for the position “for selfish reasons.”

“There is injustice in the appointment procedure of the provost of Ogun State College of Health Technology, Ilese-Ijebu. The governing council chairman insisted his preferred candidate, one Dr Cyril Akinyele must be picked despite not being qualified to hold such position,” the source said.

“Akinyele has never been in the academics, either as teaching staff or non-teaching staff. He is an environmental health officer with the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission. Check the advert for the position, it was specifically stated that the candidate must be highly distinguished academic with a Ph.D Degree.

“The second requirement was that the candidate must have minimum of eighteen (18) years teaching experience in tertiary institution, at least eight (8) years of which must have been gained in the polytechnic or similar institution.

“However, Akinyele isn’t an academic nor does he have teaching experience. He is a civil servant with the Lagos State Local Government. Yet, the governing council chairman is pushing him to be the provost.”

However, calls out across by SaharaReporters to Akinyele were not picked nor returned.
