Nigeria Police Deploy Bomb Squad, Sniffer Dogs, Others As Abuja-Kaduna Railway Service Resumes 8 Months After Terrorist Attack

Ahead of the resumption of railway services along Abuja/Kaduna rail lines on Monday (today), the Nigeria Police Force has deployed armed personnel, including a bomb squad to monitor the track.

The personnel were drawn from the Police Mobile Force, K-9, Force Intelligence Bureau, Explosive Ordnance Unit and Railway Police Command.

A statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday said the deployment of the special units was ordered by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba.

Adejobi said the deployment covered all the major stations along the route and operational coaches to provide adequate security for passengers.

 

The statement is titled "Abuja/Kaduna Railway Operations: IGP Deploys Adequate Personnel, Logistics, As Operations Resume Monday."

It reads: “The Nigeria Police Force has been in regular talks with the Nigerian Railway Corporation and other security agencies in preparation for the commencement of operations. 

 

“The deployment covers major railway stations along the route and operational coaches to provide adequate security for passengers, their property and the entire service in order to prevent any unforeseen incidence. 

 

“The IGP, therefore, assures the general public, especially intending passengers, of adequate protection of lives and property, as all hands are on deck to fortify the railway services along the route and other rail lines across the country."

On 28 March 2022, terrorists attacked the Abuja–Kaduna train was attacked in Katari, forcing the NRC to suspend operations along the route. At least, eight passengers were killed while 62 others were kidnapped by the gunmen. The final batch of the kidnap victims – 23 passengers – was released in October.
