Tinubu on Monday claimed he had been avoiding debates and one-on-one interviews with journalists because they wanted to use him to make money.

The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections, Bola Tinubu, has revealed why he has been avoiding one-on-one interviews with Nigerian media, journalists and presidential debates.

Tinubu on Monday claimed he had been avoiding debates and one-on-one interviews with journalists because they wanted to use him to make money.

The former Lagos State Governor while responding to questions at the Royal Institute of International Affairs popularly known as Chatham House in London, described himself as a marketable individual whom journalists wanted to market for money.

Tinubu maintained that he would continue to say no to those asking him to grant interviews and participate in any presidential debates ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Tinubu was quoted as saying, “One to one conversation? Excuse me. I see myself as a marketable individual. You want to use me to make money and I’m saying no.”

SaharaReporters had reported recent stories about blunders and gaffes made by Tinubu in several public appearances and how he shunned the Arise TV Townhall meeting, in order to avoid another round of embarassing blunders.

His presidential campaign council had last weekend while acknowledging Tinubu’s blunders, claimed they were minor issues and only unserious Nigerians would dwell on the errors.

Tinubu has hence been avoiding media interviews and presidential debates organised by various media organisations and civil society organisations ahead of the 2023 elections.

The APC presidential candidate who also spoke on the issue trailing his age said he was born on March 29 1952.

He said, “At the time of birth, I was dated March 29, 1952 and it is in the family record.”
