The anti-graft agency detained D’banj on Tuesday over fraud allegations involving the N-Power programme. It said about 10 persons had been invited in connection with the fraud and that government officials were involved.

Some Twitter users have called on the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to release the names of government officials who conspired with Nigerian singer, Mr Oladipo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as D'banj, to divert public funds earmarked for the N-Power programme.

The anti-graft agency detained D’banj on Tuesday over fraud allegations involving the N-Power programme. It said about 10 persons had been invited in connection with the fraud and that government officials were involved.

On June 8, 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari launched the programme to address the issues of youth unemployment and empowerment, and also promote social development.

One of the Twitter users, Idris, on Wednesday, criticised the anti-graft agency for not disclosing the identities of government officials the same way it did with D'banj.

“Bro! They said D BANJ and some Govt officials diverted money. They mentioned DBANJ’s name but didn’t mention any govt officials.

“Government officials are now “Unknown Fraud Men” UFM,” Idris tweeted.

“They refuse to mention their names, but na Dbanj we dey hear,” another Twitter user identified as Engr Jazzyklin added.

According to Doctor Penking, if D'banj is charged and convicted, it will prove that many Nigerian celebrities are involved in fraud-related cases.

He wrote: “If D’banj is convicted, it will prove that most Nigerian celebrities are funding their glamorous lifestyle with fraud. No hit song for two decades, no concerts or one boring skit with 1000 views but you are buying house in banana island. You must be Jesus Christ of our time.”

Also on Twitter, Damilola Alagbe described the news as very unfortunate for Nigeria as a country. The Twitter user said, “I just hope this D’banj alleged fraud isn’t true tho. We speak so much against our leaders and we behave worse than them at every given opportunity.”

“D’banj that’s already wealthy is arrested for Npower fraud. 30k that could have gone to so many jobless Youths. The problem of this country is not just our politicians,” a user, SportsDeeva also stated.
