The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, who has several times declined to speak with the Nigerian media, on Tuesday granted an interview with the BBC Focus on Africa.
Tinubu had said that he avoided interviews and presidential debates in Nigeria because he was marketable and the media wanted to use him to make money.
But a few hours after his appearance at Chatham House in London, UK, the former Lagos State governor on Tuesday granted the British media organisation an interview and claimed how he tamed the Atlantic Ocean surge that could have destroyed the lives of many people in Lagos when he was the governor.
He said, “I tamed the Atlantic ocean surge that could have perished many people in Lagos. The infrastructural renewal in Lagos is excellent.”
Tinubu’s claim that he tamed the Atlantic Ocean from wiping out Lagos State is said to be in contradiction with reports projecting that Lagos will be unlivable in the near future due to constant floods and rising sea levels.
Experts have asserted that Lagos is one of the cities to be most affected by the sea-level rise, expected to inevitably rise by a minimum of 27cm due to the melting Greenland ice cap, projected to bring 110tn tonnes of ice into the sea.
Fielding a question on why Nigerians should vote him as the next president, considering the obvious leadership failure of the current President Muhammadu Buhari/APC-led government, Tinubu said he was “different.”
Tinubu, who listed his accomplishments while serving as Lagos state governor said, “I am different. I am Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I have governed Lagos, and I built a modern state that could be a country on its own.”
“I led an administration that is so prudent; from N600 million IGR to N5 billion a month. That is a record. No one else can brag about that,” he added.
