The National Association of Nigerian Students has decried the recent scarcity of fuel across the country.

Felix Attah, Senate President of the association in a statement said the unending fuel crisis has worsened the hardship being experienced by the majority of Nigerians, especially the students.

According to Attah, the students’ movement would be embarking on a nationwide protest to register their displeasure.

The statement read, “It is no longer news but a biting reality being vested on Nigerian masses, making the cost of living a serious challenge. You will recall that recently the Group Managing Director of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Ltd. came on air to issue a statement that petrol (fuel) scarcity is a thing of the past and also said in that press briefing that the trench of what we have on the ground can serve Nigerians till January 2023.

“On the contrary, the suffering due to fuel hike price and its unavailability has become a deliberate and conscious module by the government to punish the citizens of this great country.

“We are worried as to how far the NNPC Ltd and the Ministry of Petroleum have taken Nigerians for granted in the management of our people. A recent discovery from the Nigeria Navy reported by SaharaReporters reveals that the NNPC has been lying to Nigerians on what they called oil theft and its figure.

“Let it be known that Chief Timipre Sylva-the Minister For State Petroleum and the NNPC Ltd has mismanaged the trust bestowed on them by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The leadership of NANS under my watch as Senate President and Chief Custodian to the Constitution NANS presiding over millions of Nigerian students through their 420 SUG President and JCC Chairmen across the 36 states and FCT have written to all agencies responsible for checkmate of the downstream activities of the ministry of petroleum for them to take responsibility but have met no response

“Having exhausted the 2 of the 3Cs because our administration pledged to work with everyone at all levels to arrest the situation but failed to do, and after due consultation with all the structures of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) who are the major receivers of this hardship orchestrated by the NNPC Ltd and its subsidiary, we have resolved to engage the NNPC Ltd. and the Federal Government through National Protest demanding for a quick intervention, most especially as we are approaching the festive period.”
