A Nigerian national has been apprehended by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in connection with the seizure of cocaine worth Rs 18 crore (about N971 million) at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, an official said.

The DRI last weekend arrested a 27-year-old Kenyan man and a 30-year-old woman from Guinea who arrived on an Ethiopian Airlines flight with 1,794g of cocaine.

According to the Times of India, upon examination of their luggage, four empty handbags and two plastic pouches were recovered from each bag after they were cut open.

The eight plastic pouches containing a powdery substance that were recovered in total were tested with a narcotics field-testing kit and it tested positive for 'cocaine' - a substance covered under NDPS Act 1985.

The three accused were produced before a court, which sent them to judicial custody, the official said.
