Appeal Court Rules On PDP Ogun Central Senatorial District’s Primary Election
December 9, 2022

An Appeal Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has struck out a case challenging the candidacy of Olumide Aderinokun as the People Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer for the Ogun Central Senatorial District.

An aspirant, Dada Kolawole Oduntan, had approached the Federal High Court over the primary election that produced Aderinokun as the candidate of the PDP in Ogun Central for the 2023 election.

Oduntan had told the court that the primary held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library on May 23 did not follow due process, praying the court to declare him the winner.

However, in his judgement, Justice O. O. Oguntoyinbo, held that the case filed against Aderinokun lacked jurisdiction because court processes were not followed.

The judge said the case was not properly filed as a legal practitioner did not sign the documents.

Not satisfied, Oduntan approached the Court of Appeal in Ibadan to challenge the judgement.

He filed a two ground notice of appeal dated the 12th day of October, 2022.

Delivering judgement on Friday, the Appeal Court upheld the earlier judgement of the Federal High Court.
