A combined team of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian police have foiled an assassination attempt on a former Senator representing Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, Shehu Sani.

The incident happened on Wednesday December 7, 2022 in Kaduna State, SaharaReporters learnt.

SaharaReporters gathered that the security agents intercepted a telephone conversation of the plan to assassinate one Senator Shehu Sani – the situation which compelled the operatives to beef up security around the Senator.

Sani was advised to stay back at home while the security agents were on the trail of the assailants.

A source who spoke under the condition of anonymity told SaharaReporters that two persons had been arrested in connection with the plot.

He said the security had stepped up investigation into the matter.

He said, “We intercepted telephone conversations of some people over the plan to kill Senator Shehu Sani. Though the situation is under control, I can assure you that the Senator is safe as we speak. Two people have been arrested over this matter.”

Sani has largely been a critic of the Governor Nasir El-Rufai-led Kaduna State Government and the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Nigerian government by speaking truth to power over insecurity, injustice, corruption and bad governance.

It would be recalled that unknown gunmen recently killed the women leader of the Labour Party (LP), Victoria Chintex in Kaura LG of Kaduna State in mysterious circumstances.

The gunmen invaded her residence in Kaura and shot her. Her husband was also said to have sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a medical facility.

The Spokesperson of Kaduna State Police Command, Mohammed Jalige did not answer calls when contacted for reaction on the incident.
